Although this may be detrimental to’Gram, the exercises demonstrated by Smith are great for anyone who restarts weightlifting.
As part of the recently announced YouTube series, Will Smith and several of his celebrity friends are committed to making their lives the best in the next few months, but Smith also learned that the most sudden weight loss transition The wise approach is not always the friendliest to social media.
Earlier today, the actor posted a video on Instagram jokingly criticizing coach Aaron Jon Ferguson’s beginner-friendly methods, which include mastering basic compound movements such as barbells. Squat back and exercise flexibility before lifting weights.
In the semi-joking clip, Smith clearly has a problem with this less glamorous exercise strategy. “This guy said let’s start exercising, let’s get your body back to exercise so that we can avoid injury,” he said, nodding to Ferguson who was watching.
“So it means he will only give me a barbell without a weight to do bench press. I think we won’t shoot that. No one will see a video of me using only a barbell bench press without weight. No,” he said .
Of course, this happened before a hilarious jump cut in, and it revealed that Smith did exactly what he said he would not do—just use back squats instead of bench presses. “Sometimes I think trainers like to let you do BS, just to see if you really do it,” he wrote in the post.
Joking aside, it seems that Smith may actually be in good shape while relaxing his training. If you happen to get rid of some rust on your own, there is no reason to be ashamed of lifting an empty pole until you are ready to withstand more resistance.
As Men’s Health’s own fitness director and personal trainer, CSCS’s Ebenezer Samuel explained earlier this month, for men over 50 years old like Smith, it’s especially important to start with mobile training to reduce the risk of injury.
“If Smith immediately starts heavy barbell squats or bench presses, of course, he may be able to move the weight, but his organization may not allow these movements to happen correctly,” Samuel said.
As it happens, Samuel also suggested back exercises such as dumbbell rowing to increase strength. Maybe next time Smith can consider these as compromises-they are equally effective after all, and they look cooler than empty barbells.
